Ashley and Richard are from Dallas, but Chicago is where things happened for them. They flew out to Denver ahead of the wedding so we could shoot together at St. Mary's Glacier first, which is exactly the kind of couple they are. By the time we arrived in Chicago for the wedding, we already knew each other. We spent time in Fulton Market before the ceremony, under the elevated rail with that particular light Chicago bounces off its buildings, before making our way to Beatnik West Town.

The venue is intimate and lush; candlelit, green, the kind of room that already understands what it is supposed to feel like. Ashley's twin sister had married just months before, and their two families, who had all lived in this city together, were back in the same room. That context was everywhere in the photographs, whether you could name it or not.
