I have cried at weddings before.
I have never cried like I cried at this one.

Eric and I played lacrosse together in high school. That is where this started, and it is the lens through which I experienced every moment of this weekend. Lake Bluff Preserve in Frankfort is everything northern Michigan is supposed to be; genuine, unhurried, and quietly spectacular. The welcome party the night before was exactly right for who they are: a local bar, real friends, no performance. More than ninety-five percent of the guests RSVP'd. That number tells you something about what these two mean to the people around them.
The first look on the deck came in hard light, but the day extended and deepened into one of those northern Michigan sunsets that stretches longer than it has any right to. As a photographer, the architecture of that venue: multiple decks, varying elevations, the ability to shoot from above or below, gave me more to work with than almost anywhere I have been. The dance floor that night was the kind that makes you forget you are supposed to be working. I did not forget. But I felt it.
